My name is Brittany Battaglia and I will be graduating in May 2021. I will be graduating with a Bachelors degree from the Darla Moore School of Business. I am majoring in Marketing and Management with a concentration in entrepreneurship and a minor in retail. I am pursuing Graduation with Leadership Distinction in the Professional and Civic Engagement pathway.
The Professional and Civic Engagement pathway highlights many of my experiences I have had outside of the classroom, and the skills I have learned within the classroom during my time as a student at the University of South Carolina. I chose this pathway because of the leadership opportunities I was granted during my time at UofSC, and how they have helped me develop professionally and personally.
After college, I hope to land a spot as a member of a marketing team for a popular clothing or fashion brand, and plan on opening my own store/ boutique afterwards. During my time at the University of South Carolina I have been able to work on my confidence and communication skills which will help me in my future career as a marketer. In my E-Portfolio, I will be showing you the experiences I had within and beyond the classroom that helped me become the leader I am today, and how they have prepared me for my future career. My time as a University 101 Peer Leader helped me gain confidence and professional development by planning and organizing lesson plans and activities for 19 diverse first year students. Fulfilling this role helped me realize that a passion of mine is interacting with groups of people, and serving as a leader and mentor for them. At times this job was tough, but it was very rewarding in the end when I was able to see my students grow and begin to find their place on campus.
My E-portfolio is made up of three Key Insights that describe how the knowledge I learned within the classroom helped enhance different experiences I had outside of the classroom. My Key Insights include:
The Land Ethic: Treating Land as our Community
The Cultural Iceberg: Digging Deeper
Tuckman's Stages of Teamwork
In my E-portfolio you will also find a leadership section where I propose a solution for a common and pressing issue on our campus. The problem that I am trying to solve has to do with all the trash around campus, and the lack of recycling. In my leadership section I provide a plan that highlights the importance of cleaning up the trash and keeping our campus clean. I also provide multiple simple solutions to help fix this problem, without burdening the student's or faculty's daily routines or life styles.
Pursuing the professional and civic engagement pathway while working on my bachelors degree in business and retail will help me prepare myself for my future career and accomplish my professional goals. I hope to work for a fashion or cosmetic company who is environmentally responsible and sustainable to gain more insights and knowledge in the industry before hopefully opening my own environmentally friendly clothing boutique.
